Lionel Messi and Inter Miami visited the White House where US President Donald Trump honoured the team for winning the 2025 MLS Cup.
Football legend Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami CF teammates were welcomed to the White House by United States President Donald Trump to celebrate the club’s historic victory in the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup.
The ceremony took place in Washington, where the MLS champions were recognised for winning their first league title in the club’s history. Inter Miami secured the championship in December after defeating Vancouver Whitecaps FC 3–1 in the final, a match in which Messi played a decisive role by providing two crucial assists that helped his team secure the trophy.
Messi, who joined Inter Miami in 2023, has transformed the club’s fortunes since arriving in the United States. The Argentine superstar was also named the league’s Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season after delivering an outstanding campaign that included goals, assists and leadership on the field.
During the White House event, Messi walked into the East Room alongside President Trump and Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas. As part of the celebration, the team presented the president with commemorative gifts, including a pink Inter Miami soccer ball and a club jersey.
President Trump praised Messi’s impact on the team and highlighted how difficult it is for star players to meet the huge expectations placed upon them after moving to a new league. The president congratulated the team for their achievement and welcomed Messi during what was the Argentine captain’s first visit to the White House.
The visit follows a long-standing American tradition in which championship-winning sports teams are invited to the White House to celebrate their success and achievements from the previous season.
For Inter Miami, the moment marked another milestone in the club’s rapid rise in Major League Soccer and highlighted the significant influence Messi has had since joining the franchise.
