Air Arabia will launch daily non-stop flights between Sharjah and Rome starting July 1, 2026, expanding its European network. The new service aims to strengthen travel, tourism, and business links between the United Arab Emirates and Italy.
Air Arabia has announced the launch of a new daily non-stop service between Sharjah and Rome, marking another step in the airline’s ongoing expansion across Europe. The new route, scheduled to begin on July 1, 2026, will connect Sharjah International Airport with Rome Fiumicino Airport, strengthening direct air links between the United Arab Emirates and Italy.
The airline said the introduction of the new service reflects rising demand for affordable travel between the two countries, particularly for tourism, business, and cultural exchange. Rome remains one of Europe’s most visited destinations, attracting travellers from across the Middle East, while the UAE continues to serve as a major global transit and commercial hub.
The route will be operated using the latest generation narrow-body aircraft from Airbus, specifically the A320neo, which offers improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and enhanced passenger comfort. The aircraft features modern cabin interiors and supports the airline’s strategy of maintaining cost-effective operations while improving travel experience.
Air Arabia, recognised as the Middle East and North Africa’s first and largest low-cost carrier operator, said the addition of Rome represents a key milestone in strengthening its European network. The airline has steadily expanded its footprint across major European cities over recent years, targeting destinations that show strong demand from both leisure and business travellers.
Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer of Air Arabia, said the launch aligns with the airline’s long-term strategy of offering direct and affordable connectivity to important international markets.
He noted that Rome is one of the world’s most culturally significant cities and a popular destination for travellers from the Gulf region. According to him, the new route will provide customers with greater convenience while supporting economic and tourism links between the UAE and Italy.
The announcement was also welcomed by Aeroporti di Roma, which manages the Italian capital’s main airport. Ivan Bassato, Chief Aviation Officer of the airport operator, said the new connection will further diversify Rome’s international route network and strengthen travel links with the Arabian Peninsula.
He added that the service enhances the global connectivity of Rome’s aviation sector and reflects continued cooperation between European and Middle Eastern airlines.
With the addition of the Rome route, Air Arabia will now operate daily non-stop services to both Rome and Milan (Bergamo), reinforcing its presence in the Italian market. The airline said the dual-city connectivity will help meet increasing demand for travel between the two countries while supporting trade and tourism growth.
Industry analysts note that low-cost carriers are playing an increasingly important role in expanding international travel options by offering competitive fares and direct routes to major destinations. Air Arabia’s continued fleet modernisation and network expansion are part of a broader strategy to strengthen its position in key regional and international markets.
The airline currently operates a modern fleet consisting entirely of Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, allowing it to maintain operational efficiency while expanding to new destinations. With the launch of the Sharjah–Rome route, Air Arabia continues to focus on accessible travel and improved connectivity across Europe, the Middle East, and beyond.
