Flying taxis could soon soar over Ajman under new agreement

Ajman has signed a partnership with Skyports Infrastructure to explore flying taxis and smart aerial mobility. The agreement aims to plan vertiports, improve readiness, and study drone uses in logistics and emergencies—part of Ajman’s vision to become a smart city with sustainable, high-tech transport solutions.

Ajman, UAE – Flying taxis could soon become a part of daily life in Ajman, thanks to a new partnership aimed at exploring how advanced air mobility solutions can reshape transportation in the emirate.

The Ajman Transport Authority has teamed up with Skyports Infrastructure, a leading global company that designs and builds take-off and landing zones for electric flying vehicles, also known as eVTOLs (electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft).

The agreement, signed by Omar Mohammed Lootah, Director General of Ajman Transport, and Daniel O’Neill, General Manager of Skyports in the Middle East, marks an important step in Ajman’s efforts to modernise its transport network and keep pace with global innovations.

Shaping the future of mobility

Under the partnership, Ajman Transport and Skyports will work together on comprehensive studies and research focused on how flying taxis and smart aerial mobility can be introduced in the emirate. Their collaboration will cover several key areas:

  • Identifying ideal locations for vertiports – the specialised hubs where flying taxis can land, take off, charge, and handle passengers.

  • Evaluating technical and operational needs to make sure Ajman is fully prepared for this next-generation mode of transport.

  • Exploring drone applications in important sectors such as logistics, deliveries, and emergency response.

This step comes as cities around the world look for sustainable and innovative solutions to tackle urban congestion and improve quality of life. By exploring flying taxis, Ajman hopes to offer faster, cleaner, and smarter transport options to residents and visitors alike.

A vision for a smart city

Speaking about the agreement, Lootah highlighted that the partnership is part of Ajman’s broader vision of becoming a smart city that embraces cutting-edge technologies.

“This partnership reflects Ajman’s commitment to becoming a smart city by adopting futuristic transport options that are both sustainable and innovative,” he said. “By teaming up with international experts like Skyports, we aim to build a world-class transport system that is safe, reliable, and ready for the future.”

Lootah added that with the emirate’s population steadily growing, it is crucial to explore modern and efficient ways to keep people and goods moving.

Global expertise comes to Ajman

Skyports Infrastructure is widely recognised for its work in building the infrastructure needed for urban air mobility, including designing and constructing vertiports tailored to the needs of eVTOLs. The company is active in several markets around the world and has partnered with different cities to bring flying taxis closer to reality.

Daniel O’Neill, representing Skyports in the Middle East, expressed his excitement about the collaboration.

“It’s a great opportunity to bring advanced aerial mobility solutions to life in Ajman,” O’Neill said. “This partnership aligns perfectly with the latest international developments in this rapidly evolving sector, and we look forward to working closely with Ajman Transport to make it happen.”

A regional trend

Ajman’s move comes at a time when the UAE is positioning itself as a hub for futuristic transport. In Dubai, plans are underway to open the country’s first flying taxi vertiport, DXV, near Dubai International Airport. Dubai is aiming to start flying taxi services by 2026, which could reduce travel times between key locations dramatically.

Elsewhere in the UAE, test flights of electric air taxis have already started. In Abu Dhabi, the American company Archer is conducting trial flights and plans to launch commercial services in the coming years.

By joining this movement, Ajman shows it is serious about adopting smart mobility solutions that can transform urban life.

Looking ahead

While it will take time before flying taxis become a common sight in Ajman’s skies, this agreement is a key step in turning that vision into reality. The coming months and years will see both parties working on detailed planning, studies, and identifying the best way forward.

For residents and visitors, the prospect of flying taxis is no longer just science fiction. With this new partnership, Ajman is actively preparing for a future where travel is faster, greener, and more connected than ever before.
