Traditional Chinese Arts Take Center Stage
Dubai recently commemorated the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Mooncake Festival, with a dazzling cultural event at Zabeel Theatre, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray. The celebration showcased traditional Chinese performances, blending age-old artistry with modern stagecraft.
International Acrobats Thrill the Audience
The Dezhou Acrobatic Troupe from Shandong Province mesmerized the audience with 12 breathtaking acts over an 80-minute performance. Highlights included high-flying hoop dives, foot juggling, umbrella and flower pot balancing, duo acrobatics, elegant contortion routines, skillful diabolo performances, and the iconic Face-Changing of Sichuan Opera.
Dignitaries Attend the Event
The festival was attended by notable figures, including Abdulla Al Qaseer, Deputy Director of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and representatives from various consulates in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Ou Boqian, General Consul, also announced the launch of a direct flight from Dubai to Ürümqi, Xinjiang, starting September 26, highlighting the ongoing strong diplomatic ties between the UAE and China, which mark 41 years this year.
Celebrating Family and Tradition
The Mid-Autumn Festival, dating back 3,000 years, is traditionally a time for family reunions and giving thanks. In Dubai, the event offered residents and visitors an opportunity to experience authentic Chinese culture through music, acrobatics, and festive traditions, emphasizing the spirit of togetherness and cultural exchange.
A Moonlit Cultural Evening
The festival, part of the initiative “Mid-Autumn Festival, A Moonment to Remember”, successfully combined entertainment, cultural heritage, and international diplomacy. The performances left the audience captivated, offering a memorable glimpse into China’s rich traditions while strengthening UAE-China relations.
